Rebels Find Success At Gladstein Invitational

1/27/2007 | Track and Field

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The Ole Miss men’s and women’s track and field teams found success at the Gladstein Invitational over the weekend. Three Rebels and Lady Rebels earned NCAA qualifying marks at the meet hosted by Indiana University.

“January is the time where we prepare for what we call the champion run,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “I thought we have had a great January and this meet was no exception.”

Junior All-American John Yarbrough turned in a personal best time of 7.80 in the 60-meter hurdles. Yarbrough was the top collegiate finisher and his time was a NCAA qualifying mark.

Barnabas Kirui, the reigning SEC Cross Country Championship, won the men’s 5000 meters with an NCAA qualifying time of 14:04.18.

Sophomore James Maloney became the second Rebel in Ole Miss history to record a mark of over 60 feet in the weight throw. The personal best mark of 61-2.25 placed Maloney seventh in the weight throw. Maloney’s mark is second all-time in school history behind former All-American Stacey Andrew’s throw of 68-3.75.

“James is someone who we need to perform for us to be successful,” said Walker. “He really performed well as a freshman, but he has continued to improve this season.”

On the women’s side Britney Reese recorded a jump of 5-10.25 in the high jump. The mark was a NCAA qualifying mark and placed Reese second overall. She also won the long jump with a mark of 19-9.50 and placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 41-5.

Junior Kenyata Coleman recorded a second place finish in the 4200 meters and a third place in the 200 meters. Coleman finished with a time of 24.65 in the 200 meters and a time of 54.42 in the 400 meters.

Cachet Murray won the women’s 60 meter dash in a time of 7.55.

Ole Miss travels to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Invitational on Feb. 9.
