OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss senior Tara Langley has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It is the second time this season Langley has been selected for the honor.
Langley helped lead the Rebels (17-4, 7-3 SEC) to a pair of wins over Kentucky and Tennessee on the road, marking the second-straight weekend that Ole Miss has swept its conference opponents. The win over Kentucky was the first road victory over the Wildcats for Ole Miss since 2004, while the win over Tennessee was the first for the Rebels since the 1995 season and only fifth ever over the Lady Vols.
Langley came up with a match-high 25 digs against the Wildcats to help lead the Rebels to the 3-2 victory on Friday night. She then turned around and came up with 22 digs against the Lady Vols to help Ole Miss pick up the 3-2 win on Sunday. Langley now has 1,147 digs in her career at Ole Miss, making her fourth all-time. She needs 44 digs to take the lead for digs in a career as a Rebel.
With the pair of wins, the Rebels moved into a tie for first place in the SEC Western Division and a tie for second in the overall standings behind Florida.
Ole Miss has now won five straight matches in SEC play and will take to the road to face LSU on Wednesday. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Pete Maravich Assmebly Center on campus at LSU.
