Rebels Look For Season Sweep Over Arkansas On Sunday

10/20/2007 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. With the “second half” of the conference season underway, Ole Miss (17-5, 7-4 SEC) will kick off the stretch run for a second-straight NCAA Tournament berth on Sunday as the Rebels will host Arkansas (10-11, 4-7 SEC) at 1:30 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.

Ole Miss defeated Arkansas 3-0 in Fayetteville earlier in the season and will be looking for a season-sweep of the Lady Backs for the second-straight season. The Rebels took both matches from Arkansas last season.

Both teams enter Sunday’s contest coming off a loss at the hands of No. 25 LSU. The Rebels fell to the Tigers 3-1 on Wednesday, while Arkansas was defeated 3-0 in Baton Rouge on Friday night. Each team will be looking to get back on the winning side of things in the contest.

To do that, Ole Miss will look for senior outside hitter Katie Kramer to help pace the offense as she has put down a team-high 289 kills and a team-best 3.52 kills per game. She will also need help from right side hitter Caitlin Weiss. The sophomore is second on the team 245 kills for a 3.36 kill per game average.

In the first meeting with the Lady Backs, Kramer put down 10 kills while Weiss set the tone for the Rebels with 11 kills and hit .381 for the match.

Ole Miss will also look to get continued production form its back row defense, led by two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Week Tara Langley. Langley averages 5.11 digs per game to set the tone of the defensive side of things.

The Lady Backs have had a bit of success lately with wins over No. 5 Florida and South Carolina last weekend before falling to the Tigers of LSU this past weekend. Arkansas will be looking to outside hitter Jessica Dorrell to lead the attack as she averages 4.02 kills per game and has put down a team-high 326 kills on the year.

Sarah Fruedenrich leads the net defense for Arkansas as she averages almost a block and a half a game.

It will be Scout Day at the Gillom Center on Sunday. All area scouts receive complimentary admission as well as their pack leaders.
