OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss added its first two signees of the fall signing period as infielders Matthew and Michael Snyder signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball beginning with the 2008-09 academic year, the Rebels announced on Wednesday.

“I call these guys the twin towers because they are so tall and anchor the corners of the infield,” said Ole Miss assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle. “They are both extremely talented. It’s rare that you find the combination at the corners with that size and ability. The fact that one is left-handed and right-handed is unique.
“The exciting thing is that it continues a great legacy we have at Ole Miss of brothers playing ball together here,” Reinstetle said. “From the Henry brothers last season, through the Huismans, the Kessingers and the Pomeranz brothers...we have a long history of families coming to Ole Miss and being successful. We expect big things from Matt and Mike when they get to campus and have no doubt they will be successful.”
Matthew (6-5, 200 lbs) and Michael (6-5, 200 lbs) play at opposite corners of the infield as Matthew plays first base, while Michael holds down third base. Both players throw right handed, though Matthew is a left-handed hitter while Michael is a right-handed hitter.
As a junior, Michael hit .429 with eight home runs and 29 RBI on the way to All-District honors. Matthew also had an impressive season at first as he hit .431 with five home runs, 21 doubles and 31 RBI. He also earned All-District honors.
The brothers chose the Rebels over
The Snyder’s come from a long line of baseball players as their father, Brian, pitched for the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics. Their brother, Brandon, was a first round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2005 and is currently pitching in the minors in AA ball.
Matthew and Michael mark the first pair of signees for the Rebels in the fall signing period that runs from Wednesday, November 14, through Wednesday November 21.
