11/16/2007 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. The Rebels added a sixth season sweep to the books on Friday as Ole Miss (24-7, 13-6 SEC) defeated Auburn (11-19, 3-16 SEC) by a score of 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 31-29) to sweep the season series with the Tigers.

With the sweep the Rebels stayed within one game of first place in the SEC Western Division and third place in the overall conference standings.

Three Rebels broke double digits in kills as Katie Kramer and Caitlin Weiss put down 11 kills each and Lauren Moffett added 10 kills on the night. Moffett hit .308 for the match and also came up with four blocks (2 BS, 2 BA).

Tara Langley led the back row defense as one of four Rebels to break double-digits in digs with 20 for the match. She was joined by Rachel Kieckhaefer and Weiss with 12 digs and Allison Weber’s 11 digs. Kieckhaefer and Weiss turned in the only double-doubles for the Rebels, as the senior setter finished one kill shy of a triple-double with nine kills and 29 assists on the night.

“I thought it was a balanced attack we put on the floor tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "We turned up the defense as we went along. Lauren Moffett has been playing extremely well the past few weeks. It’s nice to see that. We spent a lot of time working on our serving and that work paid off tonight.”

The Rebels recorded eight service aces on the night.

Ole Miss pulled out to the early lead in the first game behind the play of Kramer and Moffett who recorded four kills each, while Kieckhaefer turned in three kills with no errors. The Rebels also came up with three of their service aces in the frame to push out to the game one win 30-22.

The second game continued to be all Rebels as Emily Jones led the way with three kills and three blocks to push Ole Miss out to an early lead that held through the end. Kramer and Weiss also added three kills each as the Rebels pushed past the Tigers for a 30-27 win in game two.

Game three saw the Rebels fight down to the wire for the win as Auburn came back from an early deficit to take the lead late. Ole Miss would fight back after the score was tied at 29 to take the final frame 31-29. Weiss paced the Rebels with seven kills in the game, while Moffett came up big and hit .439 with four kills on seven swings and no errors to claim the match.

Ole Miss will close the regular season out at home on Sunday when the Rebels host Georgia on senior day. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center on campus. As a part of the senior day ceremonies, all senior citizens will be admitted to the match free of charge.
