OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss athletics department’s Rebel Ready program and the M-Club Alumni Chapter recently hosted their first “Backpack to Briefcase” Etiquette/Networking Dinner for Rebel student-athletes.

Monday’s dinner was designed to give junior and senior student-athletes an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge regarding the intricate details related to career development from former athletes and employers.

The featured speaker was Alumni Association President-Elect Rose Jackson Flenorl, who serves as Manager of Social Responsibilities for FedEx Services. Flenorl’s inspiring message imparted personal experiences as a student at the University and shared examples of challenges she has overcome throughout her career.

The evening was highlighted by a five-course meal served to the student-athletes and guests. Rebel Ready program coordinator Jennifer Zimmerman facilitated the meal and shared enlightening tips on how to properly dine while making a positive impression on the individuals offering career opportunities.

During Zimmerman’s presentation, M-Club Alumni members and employers offered their career experiences and important information regarding the job search process.

Ole Miss associate athletics director Derek Horne said the program was an overwhelming success.

“It’s our desire to prepare every student-athlete for success in their chosen field of endeavor,” said Horne. “They make a commitment to our University, and it is our responsibility to assist them with their career and personal development.”

Rebel Ready is a program designed to develop and implement a life skills and professional development program geared towards preparing student athletes for success in college and beyond.
