Ole Miss Softball Drops Road Game At Mississippi Valley State

2/28/2007 | Softball

ITTA BENA, Miss. The Ole Miss softball team suffered a 2-0 defeat to in-state rival Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday at the Devilettes Softball Complex.

The shutout marked just the second for the Rebels (4-12) this season, including a 5-0 defeat to No. 16 Baylor at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational.

Mississippi Valley starter Nicole Henderson (2-0) kept the Rebels off-balance all evening as she pitched a complete-game shutout allowing four Rebel hits and striking out five.

Ole Miss starter Becky Nye (0-7) allowed just two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts in the losing effort.

The Devilettes (5-9) broke a scoreless tie with one run in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on first and third with two outs, Mississippi Valley executed a double steal. Courtney Carson swiped second, and Aisha Ledet scampered home as the umpire ruled she slid under Rebel catcher Amber Tramp’s attempt to block the plate.

Ole Miss fell into a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth. Ledet doubled down the left field line, scoring Nakelya Moragne, who had reached base and advanced to second on a Rebel throwing error.

The Rebels return to Oxford this Friday-Sunday for their home debut at the Red and Blue Classic.
