Justin Henry Named SEC Player Of The Week

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss second baseman Justin Henry has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to a 4-1 record, including a series win over No. 23 UCLA, the league office announced on Monday.

 

Henry hit .636 for the week as he went 14-of-22 and posted five multiple hit games. Henry was 3-for-5 with two runs scored against the 23rd-ranked Bruins on Friday, 3-for-5 with an RBI to tie the game at six on Saturday and was 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Sunday’s series clinching win.

 

The Vicksburg, Miss., native hit .714 against the Bruins as he went 10-for-14 on the weekend to pace a hot-hitting Rebel offense that scored 18 runs in the weekend series and 31 runs for the week. Ole Miss defeated Austin Peay 4-3 and 9-3 in a two-game set to open the week.

 

Henry leads the Rebels at the plate with a .447 batting average for the season and is one of six Rebels hitting above .300 for the season. The junior was a pre-season First Team All-SEC selection by Rivals.com heading into the season.

 

Ole Miss will take to the road this week, playing at Arkansas State on Tuesday before opening Southeastern Conference play on the road this weekend at top-ranked Vanderbilt.
