No. 16 Rebels Blow Past Austin Peay 9-3

In addition to the nine hits, the Rebels also drew eight walks on the night.
Brett Basham and Justin Henry led the Rebels at the plate as Basham went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Justin Henry went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Zack Cozart also came up big for the Rebels with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI.
Phillip Irwin (2-0) picked up the win in his first collegiate start as he worked 3.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Irwin collected the win as the pre-determined pitcher of record. Ole Miss used four other pitchers on the night as Justin Cryer, Nick Hetland, Cody Satterwhite and Rory McKean all saw time on the mound for the Rebels.
Cryer held the Governors hitless in 2.0 innings of work with a walk and four strikeouts in his collegiate debut. Nick Hetland tallied 2.0 innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Satterwhite and McKean both turned in an inning of work each to close out the game. Satterwhite struck out two batters while McKean retired the side in the ninth on a groundout and two straight fly outs.
Governor ace Matt Reynolds (2-1) suffered the loss as he gave up eight runs on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. The southpaw entered the game with a 1.80 ERA and had only walked two batters while striking out 18 entering the game. Reynolds worked 5.1 innings against the Rebels.
“It was another good offensive day for us,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “We had some timely hits and got some good swings. When you are swinging the bat like we did tonight, it helps you get more walks like we did. Zack Cozart’s timely hit was big for us.”
Austin Peay scored first, plating a run in the top of the third when Rafael Hill scored from third on a single to left field from Matt Smith. Hill reached on a single before stealing second and then moving to third on a wild pitch.
The Rebels answered in the bottom half of the inning on a two-RBI single to left field from Cozart. The hit plated Brett Basham and Justin Henry from second and third. Both runners drew walks to reach base before moving forward on a sacrifice bunt from Logan Power. Cozart then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field from Andrew Clark to give the Rebels the 3-1 lead.
The Rebels loaded the bases with one out in the fourth and added two runs when Justin Henry ripped a single to right field, driving in Fuller Smith and Peyton Farr. Smith and Farr reached on back-to-back walks before advancing on a single from Basham to load the bases. Basham moved to third on the single from Justin Henry and scored a batter later when Power hit a grounder to short. Ole Miss led
Austin Peay cut into the lead when Will Hogue hit a two-run shot to right field, scoring Josh Meeker who reached on a single to right center a batter earlier. The home run cut the lead to three at 6-3 in favor of the Rebels.
Peyton Farr doubled to lead off the sixth for the Rebels and scored a batter later when Basham tripled to left center. Justin Henry singled in the next at bat to drive in Basham and push the lead to 8-3 in favor of Ole Miss.
The Rebels loaded the bases on three straight walks in the seventh before Evan Button scored from third on a sacrifice fly from Basham to push the Rebels out to the final 9-3 margin of victory.
