OXFORD, Miss. - Members of the Ole Miss track and field team recently visited H. W Byers High School, in Holly Springs, Miss. to speak to the students on the importance of reading.

Senior Charles Bailey, Junior Bill Fennell and sophomores Lindsay Doucett and Zuzana Legatova autographed posters for the students, before speaking to them on the importance of reading and gaining quality education.

Derek Horne, Associate Athletics Director at Ole Miss, commended the student-athletes for their continued efforts to give back to the community and on relaying the importance of reading to the students.

"Our student-athletes understand the importance of service and this visit was truly beneficial for the student at H. W. Byers High School," said Horne.

Bailey was recently named the 2007 winner of the Crossing The Lines Award, which honors an Ole Miss athlete that stretches beyond the traditional role of a student-athlete and excels in competition, the classroom and the community. This individual excels above and beyond academically; contributes unselfishly in the community; and truly serves as a role model to his/her fellow student-athletes and coaches.
