4/28/2007 | Baseball

OXFORD, Miss. It was a pitcher’s duel early, but the Rebels got timely hits from the heart of the lineup in the sixth inning as No. 18 Ole Miss (30-15, 12-8 SEC) put together a three-run rally on the way to a 5-1 win over No. 17 Mississippi State (27-12, 9-9 SEC) on Saturday.

“Lance was dominant today, as he has been all year,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “He was able to pitch himself out of a couple of jams. You have to give him credit. Getting out of the bases-loaded jam was critical. Guys like him are able to keep you off balance and I just told our guys to keep battling.”

Mississippi State got on the board in the third inning when Rea hit a home run to right field that just cleared the fence to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth when Lynn got Rea to line into a double play at third as Cody Overbeck snagged the ball and tagged the bag for two outs on the play. Lynn then struck out the next batter to get the Rebels out of the inning with no damage.
