Rebels Even Series With 9-2 Win Over Kentucky

The win evened the weekend series at a game each heading into Sunday’s rubber-match at
Justin Henry led the Rebels at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance, including two triples, as he scored two runs and notched two RBI. Zack Cozart also went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Both Cody Overbeck and Logan Power homered in the game, moving to 12 home runs and nine home runs on the season, respectively.
Freshman outfielder Jordan Henry saw his season-long 16-game hit streak snapped as he went 0-for-3 at the plate with a hit by pitch and was intentionally walked in his last plate appearance in the eighth inning. The 16-game hit streak tied Cozart for the longest of the season and is tied for the eighth longest in program history.
Lance Lynn (6-4) picked up the win as he worked 7.1 innings with two runs on four hits as he walked three and struck out six. With the six strikeouts,
Andrew Albers (6-4) suffered the loss for the Wildcats as he allowed four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Aaron Lovett, Tommy Warner and Dewayne Oxford all saw time on the mound for
“I thought a big key tonight was Cody Overbeck’s home run,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “It really ignited the team and our fans. I think offense is contagious. We were able to score in each of the next four innings after Cody’s home run. Lance handled the rain delay well. He knew he was coming back in, so he was able to stay loose.”
The Rebels and Wildcats resumed play in the fourth inning following an hour and 21 minute rain delay and saw
The Rebels added a third run in the fifth inning when Brett Basham singled through the left side to score C.J. Ketchum from second. Ketchum singled to right field before moving to second on a single from Kyle Mills.
Brian Spears singled through the right side in the top of the sixth to score Antone DeJesus from third and pull the Wildcats to within one. DeJesus walked before moving to third on a single through the right side from Sean Coughlin.
Ole Miss got the run back in the bottom half of the inning when Zach Miller singled up the middle to score Justin Henry from third, who had tripled two batters earlier.
The Rebels added to the lead in the seventh when Justin Henry hit his second triple of the night to drive in Jordan and Cozart.
Logan Power hit a home run to left field to open the eighth inning. The Rebels would go on to add two more runs in the inning as Cozart drilled a two-RBI single through the left side to push Ole Miss out to a 9-2 lead. The score would hold for the final margin of victory as the Rebels held the Wildcats off the board in the top of the ninth.
