OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss sophomore pitchers Lance Lynn and Cody Satterwhite have been selected as members of the USA Baseball National Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Rebel sophomores are two of 11 players announced in the first wave of individuals who have been invited to play for the national team in international competition, including the Pan Am games, this summer. The final nine roster spots, as well as two alternate players, will be announced in June.

“We are very excited that Lance and Cody have accepted invitations to participate as a part of the USA Baseball National Team this summer,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “We have a history of players being invited to be a part of this experience with players like Seth Smith, Stephen Head and Zack Cozart being invited in recent years. Cody and Lance are definitely deserving of this opportunity and we are pleased that they will be representing the United States this summer in international competition.”

“With all of the baseball talent throughout the country, selections have posed an especially difficult task for this year’s USA Baseball National Team Selection Committee,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball General Manager, National Teams.  “This list of 11 players includes some of the finest college baseball players in the country and we are very excited about the opportunity they will have this summer to represent the United States in events throughout the world, including the Pan Am Games.”

Lynn has been a weekend starter for the Rebels this season, posting a 6-4 record on the year, including a 5-2 record in Southeastern Conference play as he has pitched the Rebels to wins over No. 1 ranked Vanderbilt and a complete game win over No. 4 South Carolina. In the win over South Carolina, he struck out a career-high 12 batters. Lynn has posted 112 strikeouts on the year, putting him third on the single-season strikeout list and eight strikeouts shy of the top spot on the list held by Mark Holliman.

The 6-5 sophomore was named National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association after leading the Rebels to the win over the Commodores and was named as a candidate for the Clemens Award, honoring the nation’s top pitcher.

Satterwhite has been clutch for the Rebels in his two years, working primarily as a reliever out of the bullpen. The Jackson, Miss., native earned Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball after posting an 11-2 record in the 2006 season, setting the freshman record for wins and tying the single-season record for wins with Jamey Price and Rich Ziblich.

This season, the closer has posted a 1.80 ERA on the year while picking up three wins in relief over No. 25 Alabama, Southern Miss and Georgia. He has also notched three saves in Southeastern Conference play, preserving Rebel wins over Auburn, No. 4 South Carolina and Tennessee.

The USA Baseball National Team will open its season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League in preparation for four international series and two international events this summer.
