Rebel Golfer Kyle Ellis Makes Big Jump At Sunnehanna Amateur

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. Ole Miss men’s golfer Kyle Ellis fired a 4-under 66 in the second round of the 54th annual Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament of Champions Friday at the Sunnehanna Country Club to jump up to a tie for fifth heading into Saturday’s third round.

 

Ellis came into the second round tied for 32nd after an opening-round 72.  He carded six birdies on Friday with just two bogeys to post the second lowest round of the day and tie for the second lowest round of the tournament.

 

The 2006 Mississippi Amateur Champion is battling 71 of the nation’s top amateur golfers this weekend.  With his 72-66138 total, Ellis trails leader Rickie Fowler by three strokes.

The Sunnehanna Amateur was established in 1954 and boasts an impressive list of past champions, including PGA Tour veterans Lucas Glover, Allen Doyle, Billy Andrade, Scott Verplank, Brad Faxon, John Cook and Ben Crenshaw.

Ellis will tee off in the third round beginning at 10:40 a.m. CT.
