Evan Button, Matt Smith Named GLSCL All-Stars

OXFORD, Miss. Sophomore infielder Evan Button and freshman outfielder/pitcher Matt Smith have both been selected to compete in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game, the league announced on Thursday.

 

Both players are competing for the Delaware (Ohio) Cows in the summer baseball league and will compete in the league’s All-Star game at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 11th. The game will begin at 6:35 p.m. CST.

 

The Cows lead the league with a 15-5 record at this point in the season.

 

Smith leads the team at the plate with a .351 average on the season as the freshman has notched a home run and 13 RBI while scoring five runs on the year. He has also come up with two doubles on the year while leading the Cows at the plate. Smith has also tallied a pair of saves in his two appearances on the mound. Smith has started in 10 of his 11 games played with the Cows.

 

Button is second on the team in hitting with a .316 average and leads the team in slugging percentage at .500 as the sophomore has tallied six RBI and scored 10 runs with two doubles, a triple and a home run. Button is also 4-for-5 in steal attempts on the season. He has started all 10 games played for the Cows.
