Reese Advances To Finals At World Track Championships

OSAKA, Japan Ole Miss All-American Brittney Reese turned in a career-best mark of 22-05.00 in the long jump to advance to the finals at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Track and field World Championships, which take place on Tuesday.

 

Reese was one of 12 athletes to advance to the finals at the World Championships, which is considered a preview of the Olympic Games. Her mark was the sixth best of the preliminaries and the top jump by an American. Naide Gomes, of Portugal, turned in the in top mark of the prelims with a jump of 22-10.00.

 

“This is an amazing performance by Brittney,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “She once again shows that not only does she have the talent, but she has the temperament it takes to be a champion. Not many can stand on a stage that big and deliver a personal record. We are so proud of her.”

 

Reese is the reigning SEC Field Athlete of the Year. She finished second in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, picking up her second All-America honor of the Year. She also placed third in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She was also honored as the NCAA Division I South Region's Women's Indoor Field Co-Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
