Reese Finishes Eighth at Track and Field World Championships

OSAKA, Japan Ole Miss All-American Brittney Reese concluded a dominating 2006-07 season with an eighth place finish in the long jump at the 2007 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Track and Field World Championships, which is considered a preview of the Olympic Games.
Reese turned in a mark of 21-08.00 in the finals of the long jump to finish eighth in the world. She was also the top American finisher. Tatyana Lebedeva, of
“Once again Brittney has proven herself to be a great competitor,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “I am so proud of how she handled the travel and competed on the largest stage in track. She was the top American finisher, which puts her in a great position for next year’s Olympics.”
The eighth place finish is the highest at the World Championships for an Ole Miss athlete since former NCAA champion Savante’ Stringfellow took home silver in the long jump at the 2001 games. Reese’s eighth place finish is also the highest finish ever for a Lady Rebel.
The eighth place finish in the World Championships caps a remarkable season for the reigning SEC Field Athlete of the Year. Reese finished second in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, picking up her second All-America honor of the Year. She also placed third in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She was also honored as the NCAA Division I South Region's Women's Indoor Field Co-Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
