Rebels Finish Seventh And Eighth At Alabama Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. In the second meet of the season, the Ole Miss women’s cross country team earned a seventh place finish while the men’s team took eighth Friday afternoon at the Alabama Invitational.

 

UAB won the women’s event while Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Samford rounded out the top five finishing teams.

 

For the second consecutive weekend, senior Samantha Mazer was the top Rebel finisher as she earned a 15th place overall finish with a time of 19:03.  Freshman Julie Little was second on the team as she finished the race in a time of 19:57 to take 32nd overall. 

 

Freshman Allison Kneip took 42nd place as she finished with a time of 20:24.  Sophomore Anna Adams was fourth on the team and 48th overall with a time of 20:50, while junior Lindsay Doucett took 59th place with a time of 21:16.

 

On the men’s side, host Alabama raced to a first place finish, while Mississippi State, LSU, Jacksonville State and Samford rounded out the top five teams.

 

Freshman Jephtah Kenei was the top finisher for the Rebels as he earned a 21st overall finish with a time of 26:23.  Not far behind, sophomore Gabriel Ngwiri took second on the team and 30th overall with his time of 26:54.

 

Sophomore Chad Berry finished in 60th place and third on the team with a time of 28:54.  Junior Seth Conerly recorded a 67th overall finish with a time of 30:21, while freshman Ty Gillespie rounded out the Ole Miss top five with a time of 30:41 to collect a 70th place overall finish. 

 

Ole Miss returns to action Sept. 29 when the Rebels head to Louisville, Ky., to take part in the Louisville Invitational.
