Ole Miss, SEC to Sponsor Canned Food Drive

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss student-athletes are joining in a Southeastern Conference wide canned food drive for local or regional food banks, Sept. 19-23.
As part of the SEC "Together We Can Drive" program, Ole Miss student-athletes will be on hand at seven different Oxford locations periodically over the five-day period to collect either cash or cans of food. The Oxford Pantry is suggesting canned fruit, meats (tuna, salmon), and spaghetti, but all canned foods will be accepted.
The first event will be at the Indoor Practice Facility banquet room on campus, Wednesday, 7:30-8:30 a.m. Also beginning Wednesday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and continuing through Friday, student-athletes will be hosting a campus-wide canned food drop-off outside the Student Union Plaza.
"Whether we get one can or 50 tons of food, we are providing a great service to the community," said Lynnette Johnson, Ole Miss senior associate athletics director. "We encourage everybody to pick up a few extra canned food items while shopping for 'Groving' supplies for this weekend."
Below is the full schedule as announced by the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Rebel Ready program.
· Wednesday, September 19, 7:30 - 8:30 a.m., IPF Banquet Room: Athletics Department Day, "Cash or Can"
Bring cash or three cans of food.
· Wednesday - Friday, September 19-21, 10-a.m. - 3 p.m., Union Plaza: Campus-wide canned food drop-off
Bring cans of food to the truck parked outside the Union.
· Thursday, September 20, 4 - 7 p.m., Kroger and Larson's Big Star
Student-athletes will be collecting cans during these hours.
· Thursday, September 20, 7 - 8 p.m., University Club: Coach O radio call-in show, "Bring a Buck" night
Cash donations will be accepted.
· Friday, September 21, 4 - 7 p.m., Wal-Mart
Student-athletes will be collecting cans during these hours.
· Friday, September 21, 7 - 9 p.m., Gillom Sports Center: Ole Miss Volleyball vs. Florida,
Free admission with a three-can donation.
· Sunday, September 23, 1 - 3 p.m., Ole Miss Soccer Stadium: Ole Miss Soccer vs. Colorado College,
Free admission with a three-can donation.
