Nikki Byrd Named Homecoming Freshman Maid

10/13/2008 | Women's Basketball

Ole Miss recently celebrated its annual homecoming festivities and the Rebel women's basketball team was well represented as freshman Nikki Byrd was selected as a freshman maid on homecoming court.

A native of Brookhaven, Miss., Byrd was escorted at halftime of the Rebel football game by men's basketball player David Huertas.  Her selection on the Ole Miss homecoming court marks the fourth selection from the current group of Rebels.  Shawn Goff, Alliesha Easley and Kayla Melson have also each been homecoming maids at Ole Miss.

On the basketball court, Byrd arrives at Ole Miss following an outstanding career at Brookhaven High School, where she was selected as a Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen following her senior season after averaging 16.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.   Byrd is expected to provide an immediate impact for the Rebels this season from both the post and wing positions.
