Men's Golf In Fifth At Bank Of Tennessee

10/24/2008 | Men's Golf

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. The Ole Miss men’s golf team shot a 292 in the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Friday, and stands in fifth heading into the second round, just four back of the host school, East Tennessee State.

Coastal Carolina and North Carolina State benefitted from the early tee times before the rains and wind set in, and are tied for second at 290, while Wake Forest is in fourth at 291.

"Our guys played well and had good weather through nine holes before the rain and cold weather moved in, and it got worse,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “It got really nasty. Our guys hung in well even through the downpours and 30 mile hour winds.  We’re still close, and we are looking forward to the second round.”

Rebel senior Stefan Strandlund carded a 1-under 71 and sits in a tie for second, only one back of the leader, N.C. State’s Matt Hill.  Freshman Sean Dale finished at even par and is tied for 10th, while sophomore Jonathan Randolph fired a 1-over 73 to tie for 20th.      Freshman Joe David and junior Will Roebuck each turned in a 76.

Ole Miss will tee off the second round beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
