Men's Golf Earns Fifth At Bank Of Tennessee

10/26/2008 | Men's Golf

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. With cool temperatures and dry wind, the Ole Miss men’s golf team struggled to a final round 297 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, finishing fifth at 877 to conclude the fall campaign.

Coastal Carolina (869) edged out the host East Tennessee State (870) by one stroke to capture the crown.  A triple bogey by one of the Buccaneers allowed CC to overcome a four-shot deficit.    Wake Forest (871) took third followed by North Carolina State (875).

Sophomore Jonathan Randolph led the Rebels, tying for ninth with a 73-71-73217 for his first top 10 of the year.   With back-to-back 71s, Joe David tied for 14th at 218.

Rounding out the Rebels, senior Stefan Strandlund and freshman Sean Dale finished with a 224, while junior Will Roebuck posted a 227.

“We struggled with our games today,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “The greens got faster with the cool dry winds.  Scores were higher for most of the teams.  I see lots of for improvement.  With this being the completion of our fall season, we will give the players some time to catch up on schoolwork.”            Ole Miss finished the fall with three top fives.  The Rebels will open the spring season Feb. 14-15 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
