Two Rebel Soccer Players Named Academic All-District

OXFORD, Miss. Senior Stacey Emmonds and junior Danielle Johnson of the Ole Miss soccer team were rewarded for their hard work in the classroom as well as the playing field when they were named to one of the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Emmonds earned a spot on the Academic All-District VI second team as a forward, while Johnson was honored as a third-team defender.
An exercise science major with a 3.86 cumulative GPA, Emmonds is an academic all-district pick for the second year in a row after being named to the All-District VI third team last season. The Mirfield, England, native is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has been named to the UM Chancellor's Honor Roll five of her first six semesters in college. The forward has played in 68 career matches with 36 career starts.
Earned academic all-district honors for the first time is Johnson, who boasts a 3.67 GPA in business management. The two-time All-SEC defender has put together another fine season on the pitch for Ole Miss, anchoring the Rebel back line and playing every minute of all 18 matches this season. A native of Baton Rouge, La., she has started all 58 games for Ole Miss over the past three seasons and is a two-time All-Region selection and earned 2006 Freshman All-America honors. In the classroom, she is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has placed on the UM Chancellor's or Dean's Honor Roll every semester of her college career.
The selections mark the seventh straight year that Ole Miss has placed at least two student-athletes from the soccer team on an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District squad. Emmonds is the seventh multiple-time honoree in program history.
