OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Renee Ladner announced Wednesday that the team has received a national letter of intent from Courtney Marbra to play for the Rebels beginning in the 2009-10 academic year.

A 6-foot-1 native of Jackson, Miss., Marbra averaged 12.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.4 blocked shots last season at Forest Hill High School under the direct of head coach Tommy Groves.  Marbra helped the Lady Patriots to a 33-4 overall record and a berth in the Class 4A semifinals.  For her efforts in the state tournament, Marbra earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

“Courtney is a very athletic post player that has a tremendous upside,” Ladner said.  “She is very well coached and possesses an incredible work ethic.  She also comes from a very good high school program and we feel like she will fit in well at Ole Miss."

Marbra will add to an already deep Rebel post that features five players over 6-foot-2.

“Courtney is a great player and will do a good job at Ole Miss,” Groves said.  “She is a solid athlete that runs the floor well and can play at any level.”

Ole Miss opens the 2008-09 regular season Saturday at 12:00 p.m. when the Rebels take on North Carolina A&T in the first game of the Winthrop Hilton Garden Inn Classic.
