Rebels To Close Out Season At Arkansas On Saturday

11/28/2008 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. The Rebel volleyball team will see its season come to a close on Saturday as Ole Miss (13-15, 9-10 SEC) will wrap up the year at Arkansas (7-22, 4-15 SEC) at 1:30 p.m. at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Rebels claimed the first meeting between the two teams 3-0 earlier this season and have won five-straight matches over the Razorbacks. A win would give the Rebels a .500 record in conference play, marking the third straight season Ole Miss has finished Southeastern Conference competition with an even mark or better.

Leading the way for the Rebels is freshman outside hitter Katie Norris, who has paced the Rebels in kills for nine straight matches and leads the team in kills on the season. She tied a career-high with 22 kills against then No. 19 Kentucky three weeks ago and has posted a match-high in kills in four straight contests, including wins over the Wildcats, Mississippi State and Georgia. Norris tied her career-high with 22 kills against Georgia last weekend in a 3-2 win.

Also coming up big for the Rebels has been junior Caitlin Weiss, who returned to form against the Bulldogs last weekend with a season-high 21 kills as she has been rehabbing a shoulder injury that sidelined the right side hitter for several weeks mid-season.

Leading the defense for the Rebels is senior libero Allison Weber, who broke the 1,000 dig mark against Georgia last weekend with an 18 dig performance. She is only the 10th player in Ole Miss history to break 1,000 digs for a career.

Christina Lawrence leads the offense for the Razorbacks as she averages 3.29 kills per set and is hitting .302 on the season. She is joined in the attack by Kelli Stipanovich who puts down 2.81 kills per set. Yun Tang is also an offensive producer, using her defensive skills to average 1.02 blocks per set.

Leading the defensive efforts for Arkansas is Phoebe Bautista who averages 3.21 digs per set.
