Kieckhaefer Named To SEC Community Service Team

12/11/2008 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss senior setter Rachel Kieckhaefer was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service team, the league office announced this week.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts. This season marks the sixth-annual announcement of a Community Service Team for volleyball.

Kieckhaefer was honored with a spot on the team for her involvement in the Oxford and Ole Miss communities while also working with charitable organizations in a global effort to help others. The senior co-founded a charitable drive in Oxford called Rebel Rerun which is a system that allows for athletes to donate their used tennis shoes to those in need in Kenya.

In addition to her work in the charitable drive for those who need shoes in Kenya, Kieckhaefer has also been active in local efforts.

During her time in Oxford, the setter has volunteered to coach youth basketball and volleyball in the community at area middle schools and also has been active in the Reading With The Rebels program. She has also been active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Oxford and talks to area youths about healthy lifestyles and nutritional issues as part of her major in Dietetics and Nutrition.

Kieckhaefer has also been active in the SEC Canned Food Drive to help stock local food pantries.
