Rebels Announce Signing Of Shortstop Alex Yarbrough

12/3/2008 | Baseball

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss continued to add to its signing class with the addition of shortstop Alex Yarbrough, head coach Mike Bianco announced on Wednesday.

Yarbrough is the latest announced addition to the 2009 Rebel signing class and joins David Renfroe, Zach Lowery, Miles Hamblin, Evan Frazar, Tanner Mathis, Jordan Cooper and Eric Callender. He will be eligible to compete with the Rebels beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.

Yarbrough, a 6-1, 175-pound shortstop out of Allen High School in Dallas, Texas, was rated as the No. 154 prospect in the 2009 class by Perfect Game as he helped lead his team to the 2008 Bi-District Championship and was named District Co-Defensive Player of the Year as he committed only three errors on the season.

The Texas also helped his team secure an appearance in the Regional Quarterfinals and picked up the Area Championship and a District 9 5A Runner-up finish along the way.

“Alex is a smooth fielding shortstop with a very good bat,” said Ole Miss assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle. “He is a good runner, has a strong arm and is good in the field. He is a young senior, having just turned 16, but he has tremendous upside and will grow into an even better prospect over the course of the next year.”

Yarbrough played his summer ball with the Dallas Mustangs, hitting .455 for the club team, and has been clocked running the 60 at a time of 6.85.

He selected the Rebels over Baylor, TCU and Marshall.
