Rebel Track And Field Finishes Competition At Meyo Invitational

2/10/2008 | Track and Field

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The Ole Miss track and field teams recorded four NCAA provisional qualifying marks, one school record and many season personal bests during the second day of competition at the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

The Lady Rebels made their presence known on all ends of the track and field as the women collected provisional qualifying marks from Kasey McDaniel, LaJada Baldwin and the women’s 4x400 relay team.

In addition to Baldwin’s 53.85 provisional mark set in the 400 meters, which ranks her sixth in the nation, Baldwin also anchored an exciting race in the 4x400 relay, which consisted of junior Britney Barnard and seniors Kenyata Coleman and Sirdonea Davis.  McDaniel received her provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.37.

The Lady Rebels also received a gutsy performance from junior 800 meter runner, Lindsay Doucett.  Doucett came from behind and grabbed a win in her heat with a time of 2:09.28, breaking the school record of 2:09.56 set by senior Kirby Patterson in 2005.

In addition to the NCAA provisional marks, three Lady Rebels placed in the top 10 of their respective events.  Senior Kenyata Coleman placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.93 seconds, while senior Carmia Carroll placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-09.50.  Sophomore Davina Orieukwu placed tenth in the shot put with a mark of 44-11.75.

The men’s side had one provisional qualifying mark from Derek Johnson in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.83.  Senior Ricky Bratton put up great performances in the men’s 200 meter dash, finishing second with a time of 21.37 seconds and fifth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.80.  Senior Anka Autman placed tenth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.87.  The men’s 4x400 relay placed seventh overall with a time of 3:14.09.

The Ole Miss track and field team will continue its quest for perfection next weekend at the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.
