GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Ole Miss women’s golf team shot a season-low 293 in the first round of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational and sits in fourth place, just three back of second place Louisville.

Host Florida leads the field with a first-round 280.  Louisville is second with 292, and North Carolina is third at 292.  Georgia State rounds out the top five with a 299.

“Today’s round just shows how much the team has put into their preparation over the off-season,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “Now, more than ever, we are energized to keep focusing on our preparation for each round one shot at a time.”

Freshman Jill Brodd and junior Dori Carter led the Lady Rebels, both shooting 71 on the par 70 course to tie for sixth. Five strokes separate the leaders from Brodd and Carter.

Brodd was 1-under on the back nine, but bogeyed 15 and 18 to finish with a season-low 71.

Carter started off with two bogeys in her first three holes, but made birdie on eight and 15 to finish with a 71.

Sophomore Sara Grantham tied her career-low with a 73 and is tied for 15th.  Junior Rachel Ingram finished with a 78 to round out the Lady Rebel scoring.
