The event kicked off with a reception on the night of Feb. 1 at the Downtown Grill. The forum was conducted the following day, and afterwards, the participants attended the Rebel men’s basketball home game against
Derek Horne, Ole Miss associate athletics director for external affairs, helped organize the weekend and said the forum provided excellent perspective on further involving athletics alumni.
“One of the most overwhelming observations was that we at Ole Miss must give our former athletes a reason to come back,” Horne said. “We are also going to consider developing a mentoring program that would give former athletes an opportunity to help current student-athletes transition into life after sports.”
While enjoying the weekend back on campus, the former Rebels also pledged to make their voices louder in trying to greater unite the Ole Miss family.
“The participants were all presented with the challenge of becoming greater ambassadors for the university, and each committed to becoming more involved with the M-Club Alumni,” said Horne.
