Rebels Fall To Southern Miss

Southern Miss (20-20) left fielder Brittney Pigott led off the Golden Eagle half of the third with a triple to right and later scored on a two-out single up the middle by Megan Hill to give Southern Miss a 1-0 lead.
That would be all runs the Golden Eagles would need, as Southern Miss pitcher Hannah Griffin pitched 7.0 scoreless innings. She allowed two hits and walked three batters, while striking out three.
Lauren Grill singled up the middle with one out in the bottom of the fourth and moved to second after Ashley Dowdy walked. Amber Tramp grounded out and Grill and Dowdy advanced to scoring position, but Michelle May grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning. Grill finished the day 1-for-2 at the plate.
Lauren Rowe walked to start the Rebel fifth and Alise Doubt, who pinch ran for Rowe moved to second after Aly Presswood singled up the middle. Alyssa McGovern sacrificed Doubt and Morgan Button, who entered the game to pinch run for Presswood into scoring position. However, Rachel Torres struck looking and Lisa Conchos flied to left to end the Ole Miss threat.
The Golden Eagles loaded the bases in the fourth on a fielding error, a single and a walk with two down in the inning, but designated player Brittney Jones struck out looking to end the inning.
Tara Willitt (5-10) started the game for Ole Miss and suffered the loss. She pitched 3.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two. Becky Nye entered in relief in the fourth and pitched 4.0 innings. She gave up no runs and three hits. She struck out two batters and walked two.
