Inside Athletics: George Smith

OleMissSports.com's Inside Athletics is a biweekly blog by the Ole Miss athletics department's senior administrators and key personnel to offer fans added insight into the overall operation of the department.

What a great time of year for Ole Miss Athletics!  Coach Kennedy just finished another successful basketball campaign, Coach Bianco and his baseball Rebels are leading the Western Division of the SEC, Coach Chadwick and his men’s tennis team have captured their seventh consecutive SEC West Title, and Coach Nutt has wrapped up spring football. Golf, tennis, softball, and track and field are all rolling along. There is definitely plenty to see on the Ole Miss campus this spring.

I want to update you on several items.  First, be sure to remember that April 30 is the 2008 football fund renewal deadline for priority seating.  Coach Nutt and his staff are making a positive impact already.  The UMAA Foundation expects to break its previous year record in priority giving.  Our membership usually finishes in the top three of the conference for per capita giving, and we thank you for your continued support.

For the Basketball Practice Facility, we are at $6.5 million dollars and have two regional meetings scheduled for Memphis and Tupelo.  We are also hoping to announce other significant gifts in the near future.  The time line is on track with construction starting this summer and completing in the fall of 2009.  We still need your help, so if you can contribute or know of any prospects, please give us a call.

With the renovation of Oxford-University Stadium taking place, we anticipate selling out of our club level seats for the 2009 baseball season as few remain.  There is still an opportunity to secure outfield box seats, so be sure to get your deposit in and not get left out.  Existing grandstand and infield box seats are already sold out.  This will be the premier collegiate baseball stadium in all of America with more than 6,000 seats and an atmosphere second to none.

If you are not a member and are interested in joining the UMAA Foundation and ordering season football tickets, please contact us at (662) 915-7159.  Football seating and parking allocations will take place in June and season tickets will be mailed in mid-August.

The UMAA Foundation appreciates your continued support and looks forward to assisting you in the future.  Please feel free to stop by our new location at 908 All-American Drive.  If you ever have any questions about the UMAA Foundation, priority seating, parking, or any facility project, do not hesitate to give us a call.
