Carter Earns Top-Five Finish At SEC Championship
4/20/2008 | Women's Golf
LOUDON, Carter recorded her fourth top-five and fifth top-10 finish of the year. She has led the Lady Rebels in every tournament this year and in 17 of the last 20 tournaments during her career. Coming into the SEC Championship, Carter was the No. 1 ranked individual not on a team that is likely to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships. She was ranked No. 27, and the new rankings will come out Wednesday. “The SEC Championship is the biggest tournament that we play in,” Carter said. “It was a really great day. Any time you finish this high in the SEC it is a real big honor. I feel like I have put myself in a position to earn an individual bid to the NCAA Regionals.” In her first year as head coach, Michele Drinkard, a top 50 teacher by Golf for Women magazine, sought to improve the team’s stroke average and change their mental approach on the golf course. While not finishing where they would have liked, Drinkard says the team learned from the experience. "We had a great week, and learned a lot,” Drinkard said. We gained a lot of experience that we will be able to put to use for next year’s schedule. Dori lead the team all three days in her scoring and her leadership. She played well. We are disappointed with our finish, which is a good thing because we have fuel to get fired up this summer for next year’s fall season.” The NCAA selections for women’s golf will be announced on April 28.
