BIRMINGHAM,
Carter becomes the third player in the history of the program and the first since 1999 to earn All-SEC first team honors. The
“It’s quite an accomplishment,” head coach Michele Drinkard said. This is a reflection of all her hard work. She has a lot of goals, and this another stepping stone on the path. She’s not finished. She has so much more in front of her. Hopefully by seeing what success is all about, her teammates are going to want to step up and go the extra mile to make the team better next year.”
“I feel very honored,” said Carter, who was out on the golf course practicing. “I am speechless. It was definitely a big goal of mine. I feel I’ve grown a lot as a player. Another one of my goals was finishing top five in the SEC. I am looking forward to NCAA Regionals.”
Carter tied for fourth at the SEC Championship in Loudon, Tenn., this past weekend to earn her highest ever conference finish in one of the best fields in the country. The SEC currently has seven teams ranked in the Top 25.
Currently ranked No. 22 in the nation, Carter owns a team-leading 73.74 stroke average and has been the top finisher for the Lady Rebels in every tournament this season, including four top-five and five top-10 finishes.
At the Crimson Tide Classic, Carter carded a school-record 65 in the final round to finish second, narrowly missing her first tournament title by two strokes.
Carter is expected to earn a bid to the NCAA Regionals as she is the No. 1 ranked individual not on a team. The selections will be announced Monday, April 28 at 4 p.m., CT.
