4/30/2008 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss track and field head coach Joe Walker announced Tuesday the signing of distance runner Logan Waites to a national letter of intent.

A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., by way of Presbyterian Christian School, Waites is a 12-time state champion, claiming five titles in the 3200 meters, three in the 1600 meters and four in cross country.  As a senior, she was also a key member of Presbyterian Christian School’s 3A cross country state title in 2007.

Waites has also received numerous team awards while competing for the Bobcats, including the four-time recipient of the track and field most outstanding runner award.  She was also a two-time winner of the cross country most outstanding runner award, while winning the track and field most improved runner award as a sophomore.

“Logan is one of the top distance runners in the state of Mississippi,” Walker said.  “We expect her to step in and provide us with an immediate impact.  We already have a very strong freshman class of distance runners and the addition of Logan will only make us stronger in those events.”

Waites owns personal best times of 11:30 in the 3200 meters and 5:17 in the 1600 meters.
