Rebel Track And Field Set To Host Mississippi Open Saturday

Saturday’s meet will feature some of the top teams from the region including individuals from
Action kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with the women’s javelin, while running events are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. with the women’s 5000.
“This is going to be a great meet,” head coach Joe Walker said. “We have some great unattached athletes to combine with an outstanding collegiate field. Some of the top athletes in the country will be here Saturday, from both Ole Miss and our opponents. Hopefully, we’ll get a good crowd and good weather to make this great meet complete.”
Ranked 25th in the nation this week, the Ole Miss women’s team features several athletes nationally ranked in their respective events slated to compete Saturday. Junior Kadeshia Fortune is currently ranked 72nd in the nation in the 100 meters following her time of 11.74 she posted last weekend at the Drake Relays. Senior Kenyata Coleman stands third in the country in the 400 meters with her top time of 52.45 she recorded at the LSU Alumni Gold.
Freshman LaJada Baldwin is 33rd in the 400 meters with her top time of 53.96 she set at the LSU Alumni Gold. In the 100 meter hurdles, senior Kasey McDaniel stands 20th in the nation with a mark of 13.39 recorded at the Florida Relays.
Junior Brittney Reese finds herself ranked in the top-10 of two different field events, including the top spot in the long jump. Reese has won the long jump in every meet in which she has competed this season, posting the world’s best mark of 22-09.00 at the LSU Alumni Gold. Reese also posted her top mark of 5-11.25 in the high jump to currently claim her No. 8 national ranking. Senior Carmia Carroll joins Reese as a nationally ranked jumper as she stands as the No. 51 high jumper with a mark of 5-08.75 she recorded at the Ole Miss Invitational.
In the shot put, sophomore Davina Orieukwu ranks 42nd with her top mark of 49-06.00 she posted at the Southern Miss Invitational. Just one spot behind, freshman Betty Williams is ranked 43rd following her mark of 49-5.75 she recorded at the Ole Miss Invitational. Williams is also ranked 69th in the discus with her top mark of 157-01.00 she set at the Southern Miss Invitational. Junior Marlee Kevech rounds out the Lady Rebels nationally ranked as she stands 74th in the javelin with her top distance of 144-04.00 set at the Alabama Relays.
On the men’s side, senior Rickie Bratton ranks 13th in the nation in the 100 meters (10.32) and 22nd in the 200 meters (20.90). Fellow senior Anka Autman stands 57th in the country in the 100 meters with his top time of 10.50. In the 1500 meters, junior Barnabas Kirui is ranked 77th in the nation following his time of 3:46.79 he ran at the LSU Alumni Gold. Kirui is also 18th in the nation in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a top time of 8:52.56 last weekend at the Drake Relays.
Senior John Yarbrough is ranked seventh in the country in the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 13.62, while senior Derek Johnson stands ranked 72nd with his best time of 14.23. In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Lee Ellis Moore posted an NCAA regional time of 52.19 last weekend at the Drake Relays and is now ranked 60th in the nation.
Sophomore Justin Gunn is ranked 14th in the country in the long jump with his best mark of 25-03.25. In the triple jump, junior Wale Odetunde is ranked 16th following his jump of 51-09.75 at the Alabama Relays. Senior James Maloney is now ranked 88th in the nation in the hammer throw following his mark of 190-07.00 he posted at the Drake Relays.
