BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss men’s golfer Jonathan Randolph validated an already excellent first year by being named to the SEC All-Freshman Team Thursday, as announced by the conference office.
“Jonathan had an outstanding freshman season,” head coach Ernest Ross said. “We knew he was a top recruit coming in, and he exceeded our expectations. He had seven rounds in the 60s, which is outstanding for any player, but superb for a freshman. We are excited about having Jonathan at Ole Miss for the next few years.”
A native of Brandon, Miss., Randolph ranks third on the team in stroke average (73.16) behind junior Jesse Speirs (All-SEC second team) and senior Kyle Ellis. Randolph has played in all 12 tournaments for the Rebels and posted his best finish (2nd) at the Bank of America Intercollegiate with a 209.
Randolph has posted two top-five and four top-10 finishes this year. He tied for eighth at the Squire Creek Invitational and tied for third at the Mason Rudolph last fall to help Ole Miss capture both tournaments.
In addition to his second-place showing at the Bank of America Intercollegiate this spring, Randolph tied for sixth at the Linger-Longer Invitational with a 215, as the Rebels held off No. 1 Georgia down the stretch to claim the title.
Randolph has posted 17 rounds at par or better, including his seven rounds in the 60s in helping Ole Miss earn its seventh NCAA appearance and second consecutive under Coach Ross.
The Rebels earned the No. 9 seed in the NCAA East Regional, which will be played at the Council Fire Golf Course in Chattanooga, Tenn., May 15-17.
