CALERA, Ala. Sara Grantham, a rising junior on the Ole Miss women’s golf team, will play for the Alabama State Amateur Championship Friday at the Timberline Golf Club. On Thursday, Grantham (Wilsonville) beat Martha Lang of Birmingham 1-up in the semifinals of the Championship Flight, setting up a final showdown with six-time champion Kathy Hartwiger.

“We are proud of Sara for reaching the final in the Championship Flight of the Alabama State Amateur,” said Drinkard, out on the road recruiting. “She is on top of her game and is ready to win. It should be a great match, and we wish her the best.”

Grantham began the week by capturing medalist honors in the stroke play qualifying with a 67. She was the only player in the field to shoot in the 60s and one of only two to post a round under par.

In the first round of match play in the Championship Flight, Grantham downed her opponent, Karen Wiggins, 7 and 6, and then on Wednesday, she took out Kristen Warhurst 4 and 3 to reach the semifinals.

The championship match will feature 36 holes. Fans can check back at www.OleMissSports.com to find out how Grantham does.
