UMAA Foundation Opens Bids For Basketball Practice Facility

OXFORD, Miss. - The UMAA Foundation received four bids here Thursday for construction of a 51,000 square-foot basketball practice facility, with those bids ranging from $10.6 to $11.3 million. "The UMAA Foundation board could meet as early as Friday in order to make a decision concerning the awarding of the contract," said Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone. Yates Construction submitted a low bid of $10,644,000, followed by Worsham Brothers at $11,038,000, White Construction at $11,100,000 and Harrell Contracting Group at $11,297,000. "We are pleased with the response we received and are excited about moving forward with this project," Boone added. "We expect the facility to be ready for use in the fall of 2009." Plans call for the practice facility to be constructed on the corner of Coliseum Drive and Hill Drive across from the Gillom Sports Center at the Coliseum Drive exit off Highway 6. With its red brick and white columns matching the campus architecture, the structure will be a cornerstone in the impressive complex of athletics facilities on the southwest corner of the campus.
