Coleman Advances Into 400 Meter Semifinals At Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. Ole Miss senior sprinter Kenyata Coleman remained alive in her bid to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team in this year's summer Olympics as she advanced into the semifinals of the 400 meters Sunday afternoon at Hayward Field following her time of 52.92.
Coleman finished in 16th place overall and will compete for a spot in the finals Monday evening at 9:10 p.m.
"It is quite an accomplishment for Kenyata to be a semifinalist in the Olympic Trials," head coach Joe Walker said. "The name of the game is survive and advance and she did that today. She is extremely fit right now and we expect a great race from her tomorrow."
Lady Rebel freshman All-America LaJada Baldwin finished in 24th place with a time of 54.01 and did not advance into the semifinals.
"We are very proud of LaJada for what she accomplished today," Walker said. "There are not that many freshmen here and the fact that she had an opportunity to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team says a lot about what kind of athlete she is.
Junior jumper Brittney Reese jumps starts Ole Miss' competition Monday evening as she competes in the long jump at 9:05 p.m.
