7/29/2008 | Track and Field

MONACO, France In her final preparatory meet before taking part in the 2008 Summer Olympics from Beijing, former Ole Miss jumper Brittney Reese earned a second place finish in the long jump Tuesday afternoon at the Herculis Meet.

Reese, the top-ranked American long jumper in the world, leaped 22-02.25 to earn the second place finish.  Her performance Tuesday marked the second time this summer in which she turned in a second place finish.  Reese finished runner-up earlier this month at the DN Galan meet in Sweeden with a mark of 22-03.75.

Nadie Gomes of Portugal, the world indoor long jump champion, claimed the individual title Tuesday as she recorded a distance of 23-04.50.

Reese returns to action to compete for the United States in the long jump Aug. 19 in the qualifying stage of the event from the Olympic Games in Beijing.  Should she advance past the qualifying round, Reese will compete for a gold medal Aug. 22 in the finals
