David Wells Appointed to NCAA Committee

8/15/2008 | Athletics

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance David Wells was recently selected as one of five members of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee. It is a three-year term.

Wells was nominated by the Southeastern Conference last January and his selection was announced by the NCAA in July. The committee hears appeals made by member institutions on behalf of student-athletes who have been declared ineligible and whose eligibility reinstatement status and conditions have been determined by the NCAA staff.

The committee is composed of athletics directors, faculty athletics representatives, and compliance officers from NCAA member institutions and conference administrators. The committee reviews cases on an almost weekly basis.

Wells is in his 15th season of overseeing Ole Miss' compliance and student services, although his involvement with Rebels athletics reaches back to the early 1960s, when he participated in three bowl games as a member football team. Prior to returning to Ole Miss as the director of academic support in 1981, he had served in the Army and coached at both Kentucky and Ole Miss.
