OXFORD, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi golf course officially reopens Wednesday with a dedication ceremony teeing off at 8 a.m.

The course has been closed for nearly a year, and the renovation effort has been multi-faceted, with still more to come over the next year, said Chad Hunter, UM associate architect. "We've touched just about every part of the course," he said.

The $2.6 million project included renovated fairways, relocation of holes on the greens, lengthened tees, reconstructed tee boxes, infrastructure updates and new cart paths.

Other planned and ongoing projects include a renovated club house, new roadway to the course, new short-game putting area, new exterior signage, and new tee and hole signs. Those items push the total renovation costs to roughly $3.5 million, Hunter said.

"We are excited to announce the reopening of the golf course on Wednesday," said Gerald Barron, UM pro shop manager. "Tee times begin at noon and can be reserved immediately."

The Pro Shop is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Faculty-staff memberships are available at a 20 percent discount off the general public rate. For more information, go to http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/golf, or stop by the pro shop.

The new course also features policy changes to improve everyone's golfing experience, including cooler restrictions, mandatory proper golf attire and restrictions on "fivesomes."

For more information on the policy changes, call the pro shop at 662-234‑4816.
