Rebel Cross Country Opens Season With Sweep At Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. The Ole Miss cross country team opened the season in strong fashion as both the men's and women's teams captured team titles Friday afternoon at the Southern Miss Invitational.

On the women's side, freshman Logan Waites won the individual title in her first collegiate meet as she crossed the finish line first with a time of 20:28.50. Sophomore Julie Little turned in a fourth place finish with a time of 21:02.55 to become the second Rebel to earn a spot in the top five.

The other four female runners for the Rebels also finished in the top-10 beginning with sophomore Allison Kneip's sixth place finish. Kneip recorded a time of 21:22.60 to start a chain of four straight Rebel finishers. Junior Anna Adams followed in seventh place with a time of 22:05.15, while senior Lindsay Doucett took eighth with her time of 22:16.56. Freshman Jamie McCulloch rounded out the women's team with a time of 22:22.16 en route to a ninth place finish.

Senior Kyle Lewis raced to a first place finish and the individual title on the men's side with a time of 27:02.38. Junior Gabriel Ngwiri followed in second place with a time of 27:35.93, while junior Chad Berry was the third straight Rebel finisher with a third place finish with a time of 29:12.91

Freshman Josh Porter turned in a fifth place finish in his first meet as a Rebel with a time of 30:23.65. Sophomore Alejandro Quintana recorded a ninth place finish with a time of 31:35.18, while fellow sophomore Ty Gillespie took 10th with a time of 32:05.55.

Ole Miss returns to action Sept. 20 when the Rebels travel to Starkville, Miss., to take part in the SEC Pre-Meet.
