Rebel Cross Country Wins Samford Dual Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fueled by a first place finish from junior Barnabas Kirui, the Ole Miss men's cross country team won the team title at the Samford Dual Meet Saturday morning with a total score of 28 points.

Kirui posted a 5k time of 14:59.29 to set a new course record and claim his second individual title of the season. He also won the Brooks Twilight Classic in the opening meet of the season.

Senior Gabriel Ngwiri finished second for Ole Miss and third overall after posting a time of 15:52.41. Not far behind, freshman Riley Young placed fifth overall and third for the Rebels following a mark of 16:32.13.

Jordan Michael placed 11th and raced to a time of 17:31.62, while fellow freshman Jack Hammond took 14th place with his time of 18:35.94. Sophomore Erik Solberg rounded out the men's runners with a time of 18:53.53 en route to a 16th place finish.

In the women's 3k run, Rebel sophomore Logan Waites turned in a second place finish with a time of 10:39.45 to lead the team to a second place finish with a total of 40 points.

Junior Allison Kneip earned a seventh place finish after she posted a time of 11:03.82. Julie Little followed in eighth place after she recorded a mark of 11:08.44.

Rebel freshman Anne Threlkeld finished in the top-10 of the meet with her time of 11:12.93 on her way to a 10th place finish. Anna Adams was next for Ole Miss and earned a 15th place finish with a time of 11:40.68.

Sophomore Jamie McCulloch took 18th place overall with a time of 12:13.83, while freshman Ella Gentry finished in 21st place with her time of 13:00.27.

Ole Miss returns to action Oct. 17 when the Rebels take part in the Pre-Nationals Meet from Terre Haute, Ind.
