Rebel Graduation Rates Continue Rise
11/19/2009 | Athletics
In the Graduation Success Rate, the NCAA uses the past six years of data and includes transfers with all other scholarship athletes in calculating graduation numbers. The 2009 GSR shows 78 percent of Ole Miss student-athletes earning their degrees, which is a five percent rise from a year ago.
That number is even higher among four-year Rebels. By the Exhausted Eligibility Rate, if an Ole Miss student-athlete exhausts all four years of their eligibility in Oxford, they have an 88 percent chance of receiving their degree.
Nine of the Rebels' 14 teams are above the national GSR average, and five squads - men's golf, men's tennis, women's golf, women's tennis and volleyball - achieved 100 percent graduation. In addition, the soccer team was at 96 percent and the softball team at 92 percent.
"Our ultimate goal is to graduate student-athletes," said Karen Schiferl, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Support. "Ole Miss continues to attract quality student-athletes, and I commend the coaches, administration and university as a whole for their commitment and efforts in helping our graduations continue to rise."
The Federal Graduation Rate, which does not include transfers in and out, shows Ole Miss student-athletes graduating at a higher rate than the University's student body as a whole, at 61 percent as opposed to 56.
