Ole Miss Helps Over 250 Families For Thanksgiving

12/3/2009 | Athletics

OXFORD, Miss. - In the spirit of giving, Ole Miss faculty, staff and students participated in the annual "Adopt-A-Basket" program again this year and provided Thanksgiving dinners for over 250 families in the Oxford area.

The athletics department contributed food items and gift cards for approximately 15 baskets. In addition, Rebel student-athletes joined other campus volunteers to help assemble and pack boxes on Nov. 19.

Ole Miss Physical Plant contributed the boxes for the items and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity agreed for the third consecutive year to both load and deliver all the baskets.

Interfaith Compassion Ministries, Aramark & Catering Services and Ole Miss personnel provided names of the families who could benefit from the Thanksgiving baskets.

The Adopt-A-Basket initiative began more than four years ago as part of the Mississippi Universities Service Into Caring project, involving the state's eight public institutions of higher learning.
