Rebel Golfers Head To Orlando For Rio Pinar

2/20/2009 | Men's Golf

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss men’s golf team moved up to No. 26 in the latest Golfstat Rankings this week as they get set to head to Orlando, Fla., for the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Feb. 23-24.

The two-day tournament will take place at the Rio Pinar Country Club.  Monday will consist of 36 holes followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

The field includes Akron, Augusta State, Baylor, Connecticut, East Carolina, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Mercer, UNC-Greensboro, Ohio State, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Texas-Arlington, UCF, USF, Vanderbilt, VCU and Wichita State.

The Rebels will take the same five to Orlando that finished second at the Gator Invitational last weekend.  Freshman Sean Dale (tied for sixth), sophomore Jonathan Randolph, junior Will Roebuck, freshman Joe David and senior Stefan Strandlund, will look to keep the momentum going.

“Our team has been busy the last few days preparing for another tournament,” head coach Ernest Ross said.   “Just because we played well last week doesn’t guarantee success without effort towards preparation.  We earned some confidence from our good start last week, but we know we have to play three good rounds to be a top team.  Several of our players have played this course, and we are excited to get back to Orlando.  There are some good teams at this tournament, and we look at this as a real challenge.”
