Renovated Stadium Set For Tuesday's Home Opener

2/23/2009 | Baseball

The exciting first pitch in the newly renovated Oxford-University Stadium is hours away, and the facility is set to be fully operational for the home opener. Tuesday's game time is set for 3 p.m. against Central Arkansas.

While Panola Construction Company will still be providing the finishing touches on the stadium's stone and brickwork and landscaping, the entrance gates, grandstand seating, Diamond Club and restroom and concession areas will all be in place. The surrounding parking lots will also be ready for the fans' arrival.

The Rebel faithful will continue to enjoy the same outfield seating as in the past, however the restroom and consession area at the end of the leftfield line and the restrooms in centerfield will be unavailable for the opening games.

The overhaul of Oxford-University Stadium, which will result in a total capacity exceeding 10,000, is to have all the final details complete by the start of Southeastern Conference action in March.

Some of the amenities being added include 880 club seats between first and third base, as well as an increase in box seats from 400 to approximately 1,700. The overall number of chairback seats will rise from 2,951 to over 6,000, and fans will be able to enjoy concession areas in the stands and additional restroom areas with handicap accessibility.
