Rebel Netters Top TCU 5-2

WACO, Texas -- The No. 9 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team topped 32nd-ranked TCU 5-2 Thursday at the Ole Miss fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. The fourth-ranked pair of Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge lost 8-3 at No. 1 and then Devin Britton and Tucker Vorster lost 8-4 at No. 2. The Rebels got on the board when junior Kalle Norberg, ranked No. 32 in the nation, downed TCU’s Zach Nichols 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Freshman Marcel Thiemann defeated TCU’s Casey Powers 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 to give Ole Miss a 2-1 lead. Bram ten Berge made it 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Christopher Price at No. 4 singles, and then Jonas Berg clinched the victory by defeating Kriegler Brink 6-2, 7-6(2) at the top spot. “It was good to get this win in our first outdoor match,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “It was really windy. We had a great day, but we had to work hard to get the win. We will need to step it up tomorrow against a very good Baylor team.” Rebel freshman Otto Sauer won a third set supertiebreaker at No. 5 to complete the scoring. TCU’s only singles win came when Slah Mbarek defeated 40th-ranked freshman Devin Britton in a third set tiebreaker. The Rebels and Bears will square off at 3 p.m. Friday.
